A Simple Way to Add Warmth to Your Home This Winter

The twinkling lights come down. The smell of sugary sweets and warm treats has given way to harsh resolutions promising to cut out sugar and lose weight. As a result, the winter blues creep in and things begin to feel quite yucky. Friends, we have an answer. Today we are going to talk about a simple way to add warmth to your home this winter.

Above all, the number one thing I recommend is bringing in live plants.

Why Plants:

  • Visually appealing. Plants are simple and beautiful with varying colors and textures.
  • Stress Reduction. Some research shows that plants simply make people happier. I guess that’s why they are the #1 item sent to people who are sick or in mourning.
  • Clean air. Plants are known to filter the air inside our homes.
  • Cost effective. Live plants are a low cost way to add warmth and color into your home.

My favorite types of plants

Snake plants are possibly one of the easiest plants to grow and can thrive in areas with low light. One tip is to keep the plant in its grow pot and place it in a basket for added warmth.

Olive Trees make a gorgeous statement piece with their dainty leaves and pale-green color.
Rubber Trees are generally easy-going plants and are a gorgeous deep green and purple.

How do I know which plants are best for my home?

The Sill is a great website to learn about different types of plants and how they can benefit your home. This site is filled with information about different types of plants, as well as how to care for them.

Where is the best place to buy plants?

While big-box stores such as Lowes and Home Depot have great selections and unbeatable prices, my favorite thing to do is visit a local nursery. In sum, by shopping at a local nursery, you can do your part to support a small business.

Do you have a simple way to add warmth to your home this winter? Share with us in the comments. As always, all are welcome.
