The Downside of Aldi

By now I am sure you are thinking that there isn’t anything left to talk about in regards to shopping at Aldi. Well, I will be remiss if I don’t share a few things that I consider to be the downside of Aldi.

  1. It is a small store. While this can be a bonus if you are in a hurry, it also means that if they are out of something, there is no substitution. Like eggs-when the eggs are gone, they are gone. This isn’t a normal occurence, but it can happen.
  2. They price name brand items really high. Today I saw a bag of single serve package Frito Lay chips for over $8. This is almost $3 higher than you will find them at Target.
  3. The cereal is very different. My kids love Honey Nut Cheerios. I thought I could fool them with the Millville brand from Aldi and the joke was on me. There is a big difference. Having said that, I use their brand of Chex to make a snack mix at Christmas and no one is the wiser. I think this is just one area where I personally need to buy the name brand.
  4. The cream cheese is off for some reason. I can use it in recipes, but it doesn’t taste right on a bagel. I am not the only person who notices that, but try it for yourself and let us know.
  5. It can add a bit of time to bag your own groceries. This isn’t a problem for me because I shop on my day off and avoid just running in for something. But, for some, this could a be a frustration.

So, there you have it. The downside of Aldi. But, you know Aldi has my heart, so even with these flaws, it is still a favorite to me.
