Best Ways to Offset Rising Gas Prices

We are going to pause from our regularly planned grocery budget work and talk for a minute about the best ways to offset rising gas prices. Listen, we are all feeling it. Seemingly overnight our fuel prices are skyrocketing and in most of our cases, we have to drive somewhere every single day. I get it. We are feeling it too. But, let us not forget the reason behind this. And let us remember that innocent civilians are currently losing their homes and in some cases their lives as they fight for their freedom in Ukraine. Considering that, we can ride out some inflated gas prices for a while, can’t we?

So, here are some of the best ways to offset rising gas prices.

  1. Use your rewards. Most local grocery stores offer some type of gas reward for shopping at their store. Maximize those rewards to save a bit at the pump.
  2. Purchase gas at big box stores such as Costco or BJ’s. Right now, the Costco near me is about .20 cheaper than other gas stations. There is always a line, but it might be worth the wait.
  3. Batch your travel. Hit the post office, Dollar Store, Target, drycleaner…you get the point, all in one trip. This saves you from running around town multiple times a week.
  4. If you work somewhere with coworkers who are friends, consider carpooling to save gas. On that note, think about your kids practices. Is there a family you can ride share with?
  5. Look at your budget. If you budget $300 a month to eat out, could you get creative and eat at home this month? Then you can use that earmarked eating out money to pay for gas. Frozen pizza instead of carry out? Air fryer nuggets instead of McDonald’s?
  6. This article gives great ideas for saving gas while driving. Speed much? Then this article is for you.

These are some of the best ways to offset rising gas prices. Can you think of any more? Above all, remember that this is hopefully a temporary situation and that we are privileged to be able to sit in our safe cars and complain about the pump. We all know that it could be far worse.
